The day before the Fourth of July holiday. My biological parents suddenly showed up at my door. They got straight to the point: "Your brother is sick. He needs your kidney. If you agree, we'll give you ten million dollars as compensation." I tugged the corner of my mouth into a smile and agreed without a second's hesitation. Because I knew that even if I refused, they would just drag me away by force. After all, the Sinclair Group was a giant ship, and a nobody from a broken-down family like me had no business picking a fight with it. But what they didn't know was that I had been reborn, and I had come back to collect what I was owed. In this life, I had built up a fortune. Crushing the Sinclair Group would be easier than crushing an ant. I had held off for so long only because I wanted them to know what it felt like to be the mouse while the cat played with it. Soon enough, the day of the surgery came. The moment I got the transfer notification, I gave a faint smile. "Dad, thanks for the compensation. I'll be going now!" 1 The words had barely left my mouth when Gregory Sinclair froze. He pointed at me. "Scarlett, you... you're playing me?" "What else?" I smiled and yanked the IV needle out of the back of my hand, and blood welled up at once. It dripped onto the blinding white hospital bed and bloomed into a strange red flower. Then, before he could react, I threw open the window and jumped out of the second-floor hospital room. Gregory's freshly polished Bentley happened to be parked right below. I landed square on the hood, and the parking lot security guard let out a yelp and jumped about a foot in the air. I rolled off the front of the car, wiped away the blood from my scraped arm, and took off running for the hospital's back exit. Only then did Gregory snap out of it. He roared at the bodyguards by the door, "Hurry! Get her back here, now!" As I ran, I pulled out my phone and sent a message to the journalist I'd arranged to meet ahead of time. When Gregory first came to me, we never signed any agreement. And the ten million he'd transferred to me was marked as a voluntary gift. As long as I could get out of the hospital and reach the journalist, he could be furious enough to drop dead and he'd still have to swallow it. Besides, the money my scumbag dad had built his fortune on wasn't exactly clean. I wasn't afraid of him making a big scene. If it really blew up, that would suit me just fine. By then, the bodyguards had already burst out of the hospital. They were hollering at me to stop. I looked back and rolled my eyes at them. "You guys make, what, a couple of quarters a month? Is that worth running yourselves to death over?" That seemed to set them off, because they ran even faster. Seeing that, I gave my own mouth a hard smack. "That's what you get for running your mouth!" Then I ran even harder for my life. But before long, the burly bodyguards still had me cornered in an alley. The lead bodyguard was gasping for breath. His face was dark with anger as he pointed at me. "Run... go on, keep running..." I leaned against the cold wall, trembling all over. "Mr. Bodyguard... you're a working stiff too. Working stiffs shouldn't make life hard for other working stiffs... Can't you just let me go?" The lead bodyguard sneered. "Working stiffs gotta eat too. Mr. Sinclair's paying, so we do the job." With that, he reached out a big, rough hand toward me. I sighed helplessly. "Fine. You're forcing my hand... Don't blame me for not holding back." The bodyguard in front of me reacted like he'd just heard the funniest joke in the world. He clutched his stomach and burst out laughing, then pointed at his own head. "Come on... hit me right here, don't be shy! If you can knock me out, I'll let you go today. My call!" My eyes lit up. "You... you mean it?" He laughed and nodded over and over. "I'm a man of my word!" "All right then. Happy to oblige!" I loosened up my wrist, raised my hand, and slapped him. The next second, the bodyguard went flying backward. In that instant, the air itself seemed to freeze. The remaining bodyguards looked at each other, then stared at me like I was some kind of monster. I grinned and pointed at them. "Well? Still want to chase me?"

The bodyguards had never seen anything like it, and they backed up a few steps on instinct. After a long moment, one of them finally stammered, "D-don't think you can get away just because you're strong! Today... today we're dragging you back, no matter what." They pulled out their collapsible batons and charged at me. I rolled my eyes at them. "Tsk... what a bunch of losers, using weapons to beat up a frail little woman like me." Then I clapped my hands. Almost at once, more than twenty burly men stepped out of the shadows. Before the bodyguards could even react, they were pinned to the ground. Right after that, a bald man covered in dragon and tiger tattoos stepped up and said eagerly, "Boss Lady... these losers are down. What are your orders?" I glared at him, jumped up, and flicked him hard on the forehead. "Jake Donovan! How many times do I have to tell you before it sinks in? Don't call me Boss Lady. Call me Your Majesty!" Jake rubbed his head and apologized. "Sorry, Boss Lady... I mean... sorry, Your Majesty... What are your orders?" I glanced toward the Sinclair hospital and let out a cold laugh. "Take these guys back first. And remember, collect all their phones. If Gregory Sinclair calls, make sure you tell him you've caught me and locked me up in the Sinclair basement." Jake looked at me, confused. "Your Majesty... it's just the Sinclair family. Why not have the guys storm their place and be done with it? Why go through all this trouble?" I rolled my eyes at him. "What the hell do you know? If I let my scumbag dad die that easily, everything I suffered in my last life would've been for nothing..." "Uh... Your Majesty's right... I'll take them back now..." Jake said awkwardly, then turned and had the guys knock out the howling bodyguards and haul them back to the hideout. As he walked, he muttered, "Looks like the Boss Lady's crazy streak is acting up again..." My ears pricked up. I kicked him square in the butt. "Cut the damn gossip and go get it done!" In my past life, on this very day, Gregory had me dragged onto the operating table by force, and they took one of my kidneys for my brother, who had kidney failure. After the surgery, he didn't give me any care at all. He just turned around and dumped me in a run-down warehouse on the outskirts of the city. When my body was found, he even put on a show of grief. "If only I'd paid more attention to her." He even told the police, "After the surgery, I transferred her ten million dollars and sent her back to her adoptive mother's place. If she died out of nowhere, it has to be that woman. She killed her for the money and covered it up." My adoptive mother had never been in good health, and the outrage was more than she could take. She couldn't catch her breath. She died right there at the police station. In the end, the ten million went full circle and landed back in the hands of my scumbag parents. And my dear brother with kidney failure went on, with my kidney inside him, to marry his rich-girl fiancée and live the high life. Thankfully, heaven had eyes and gave me a second chance at life. I was reborn on the day my adoptive mother found me and brought me home. For fifteen years, I relied on the memories of my past life, and on my rage, to bring every underground faction in Chicago under my control. And the company I founded was worth a hundred times more than the Sinclair Group. It's fair to say that if I wanted to crush the Sinclair Group, it would be easier than crushing an ant. But I never made a move. Because I wanted them to truly taste what it feels like to be unable to live and unable to die. I took a deep breath and forced down the rage boiling in my blood. Looking toward the Sinclair building, I curled my lips into an icy smile. "Gregory Sinclair, are you all ready? I've crawled back from hell to collect what you owe me!"

I wiped the blood off my arm. Then I hailed a cab and took my time heading to the café where I'd arranged to meet the journalist. On the way, I looked at the ten million dollars Gregory Sinclair had transferred to me. I smiled and moved every cent of it straight into my adoptive mother's account. I texted her that I'd earned the money honestly and told her to hurry up and trade the old house for a new one, hire a live-in caregiver to look after her, and stop being so stingy with herself. The second the money went through, my mom called. Her voice was thick with tears. "Scarlett, did you really get mixed up with those Sinclair people? I don't want any big money. I just want you safe! Listen to your mom. Send that money back right now. We're not selling a kidney!" My nose stung, and I softened my voice. "Mom, don't worry. I didn't get this money by selling a kidney. The Sinclairs felt they owed me, so they sent it. Just relax and enjoy it. Once I'm done with this little thing, I'll come home and have dinner with you. I've been craving your pumpkin bread rolls." She was quiet on the other end for a long while. Then she said, her voice trembling, "Really? Scarlett, don't you lie to me. My heart won't stop pounding." "Really. When have I ever lied to you?" I leaned back in the cab, watching the streets rush past the window, and laughed softly. "Don't worry, this money is clean. Go look at houses tomorrow. If you find one you like, pay for it in full. I've got things to do here, so I'm going to hang up, okay?" After I hung up, I couldn't help remembering how, in my past life, the Sinclairs had driven her to her death. Back then, Gregory had accused her of killing me for my money. She got so upset that her heart gave out, and she collapsed onto the cold floor. And Gregory's family just watched her like it was a show. By then I was already a spirit. Forget saving her, I couldn't even call 911. All I could do was watch her stop breathing. But now, things were different. I had crawled back from hell. And I had all these people working for me. This time, I would make everyone who owed my mom and me learn what cruelty really means!

The car soon pulled up at the café we'd agreed on. The moment I pushed the door open, I spotted Walsh, the journalist I'd set up the meeting with ahead of time. "Miss Sinclair, there you are. The Sinclair Group just put out a statement saying you're donating a kidney to young Mr. Sinclair of your own free will. Now everyone's out there praising Miss Sinclair for being such a kind, devoted daughter." Walsh pushed his glasses up and slid his voice recorder toward me. "But I have to ask... this dirt you mentioned. Can it really bring down the Sinclair Group?" I set the USB drive I'd prepared on the table and kept him guessing. "Take a look at what's on here, and you'll know whether it can or not..." "Sure, sure." Walsh nodded quickly and plugged in the drive. A couple of pages in, he sucked in a sharp breath. "Miss Sinclair, where did you get all this? This is explosive!" I picked up my coffee and took a sip. "Don't ask how I got it. All you have to do is put it out there. I promise you, once you publish it, the traffic will go through the roof, and there's enough dirt coming after this to keep you fed for a year!" Walsh nodded at once. "Okay, I'll publish it as soon as I get back..." He grabbed the drive and got ready to leave, but as he stood up he couldn't help adding a warning: "Miss Sinclair, if you do this, you'll have made a mortal enemy of the Sinclair Group... Aren't you afraid Gregory Sinclair will send people after you?" I gave a dismissive smile. "Come after me? Him?" Seeing how confident I was, Walsh let out a long breath. "Okay, I get it," he said quietly, then hurried out of the café. An hour later. Sinclair Group Chairman Forces His Own Daughter to Donate a Kidney. Sinclair Properties Caught Cutting Corners on Construction. Both topics shot to the top of trending topics faster than anyone could blink. Investors dumped Sinclair Group stock in a frenzy, and in just half an hour, the share price crashed so hard that trading was halted. Looking at the flood of comments online tearing into the Sinclair Group, I couldn't help laughing. "Didn't expect Walsh to move this fast!" Just then, my phone buzzed. I glanced at it. It was a message from Jake Donovan. Your Majesty, the guys watching Gregory Sinclair say he's headed for the basement with a whole carload of people. What's the next move? Want us to just grab all of them? Grab what? Wait for me to get back! If you grab him now, how am I supposed to put on my show! I typed out the reply and sent it, then got up unhurriedly and headed toward the basement, murmuring to myself, "The big show is finally about to start..." Once I got to the basement, I had Jake tie my hands and feet with a slipknot and said coldly, "Remember, when he comes in, even if you hear me screaming for help, nobody comes out. Wait until he's said everything he needs to say, then come out and take him. Got it?" Jake thumped his chest. "Don't worry, Your Majesty. The guys have rehearsed this dozens of times. Nobody's going to blow it!" I smoothed out my wrinkled hospital gown and nodded. "Good. Once this is over, everyone's bonus gets doubled!" Then I had Jake stuff a dirty rag into my mouth and settled in to wait quietly for Gregory Sinclair to take the bait.
