Betty, a night janitor working in a downtown Chicago office building, finds a distress note on a vending machine. A young employee named Emily is being stalked, monitored and harassed by her supervisor. Risking trouble, Betty teams up with two fellow janitors to collect evidence secretly. They gather recordings, photos and surveillance footage, then report the misconduct anonymously. The abuser is fired and convicted later. Inspired by this experience, Betty pushes the company to set up anonymous help boxes for staff. She keeps offering a listening ear and assistance to those in trouble. Quiet and ordinary as she is, the janitor becomes a reliable guardian, spreading kindness and courage in the workplace.
