Sheriff Arthur Cullen must choose between saving his mistress Chloe and his wife Evelyn’s mother during a mafia hostage crisis. He sends all forces to Chloe, leaving the older woman to die, only to learn the victim was his own mother, Margaret. Chloe later betrays him, and Margaret's birthday video exposes his cruelty. At trial, recordings prove Arthur abandoned his mother. He receives life imprisonment, Chloe gets a lengthy sentence, and Evelyn finally walks away, free to save herself.
