On the night Tessa is supposed to win her freedom from an underground arena, her secret boyfriend, world champion Nolan Cross, replaces her opponent. To grant his childhood sweetheart's birthday wish, he shatters Tessa's ribs and leaves her for dead. When the same woman steals Tessa's grandmother's treatment money, Nolan calls Tessa lazy, kicks her broken ribs, and helps destroy everything she loves. Tessa survives, but the man desperate to reclaim her faces a brutal punishment: she no longer remembers him.
